How Torrents Work?

This video will show you how torrents work. Video transcript: Hello everyone, welcome to Krishna Das Lessons. Today, we will talk about how torrents work. So you might have saw them while you were exploring sites to download software like GIMP or Ubuntu. The creator of torrenting was Bram Cohen. To download files in torrents, you need torrenting software like BitTorrent or µTorrent. So it all starts with downloading the torrent file, which has information for what pieces it needs to complete the file, what trackers it needs, and what the file is. So this is the life of a torrent. So, at first the tracker would give the first downloaders a few pieces of a file when the torrent initially starts. This is called “initial seeding.” A seeder is someone who is downloading the file. If they are more seeders, the file would be faster to download. So this is why unpopular files would be slow while downloading through torrents. Seeders work like this, they would send parts of the file to other seeders, making a web of people sending parts of the file to other downloaders. Well, normal downloads work completely the opposite, so when they are more people downloading the file, the server would become slower. So, if they are more seeds, the file would be faster to download, and there would be more happy people. So this is how torrents work.
